Following a very intense summer of activity on Romsey Road, the bulk of the footway widening and new access have been finished ahead of schedule. Consequently, the night closures originally programmed to commence on 20 October, have now been brought forward, and will commence on the 15th September. The closures will be in place for 5 consecutive nights, up to and including the night of September 19th. Between now and the start of the road closures, there will be a much reduced highway presence in the form of occasional Stop/Go boards for short periods of time, and only during off-peak hours.
The night-time closures are necessary in order to carry out the resurfacing works along Romsey Road. During this week, Romsey Road will be closed between its junctions with the A3090 Badger Farm Road, and with Stanmore Lane/Kilham Lane, and each closure will be in place from 10pm to 6am.
For northbound traffic, the signed diversion route will be south along the A3090 Badger Farm Road, north along St Cross Road/Southgate Street, west along High Street and back along Romsey Road. For southbound traffic, the signed diversion route will be north along Romsey Road to Winchester City Centre, around the one-way system to Southgate Street/St Giles Cross and northbound along the A3090 Badger Farm Way. Please see attached diversion route plan.
Following the completion of the night closures, there will a further few weeks of minimal traffic management in order to complete the works. This will be for the white lining, the removal of the existing site set-up and a general tidy up.
Work has started on developing the approved scheme off Romsey Road, Winchester for 200 new homes, a 200-space park & ride facility, public open spaces and surrounding highway works.
We’d like to keep you updated on our progress and future works.
The housing development is sited on the south western outskirts of Winchester – around 2.5km from the town centre. It is situated on the north side of the B3040 Romsey Road, just north east of its junction with the A3090 (Badger farm Road).
